The expectation of winter is always exciting for me. The cold temperatures bring views that are hard to describe without an image to show. Winter 2021 turned out to be a special one for me. I had incredible opportunities to photograph the under ice world with Baltic Watches in Tobermory, and also Tag Heuer on a last minute trip to the frozen lakes of Finland. I also filmed part of a new TV series featuring the beauty of the Great Lakes region, and also collaborated with brands like Canada Goose and PolarPro.
I spent ten days on the Bruce Peninsula shooting most of those projects, along with my good friend Andrew Ryzebol. During those ten days the ice blew in from the eastern side of Georgian Bay and formed massive ice sheets around our favourite areas to explore. The timing was perfect and we were fortunate that way. We filmed and photographed the Sweepstakes shipwreck, dove under ice at the infamous Grotto, and Andrew did a first by freediving on the Niagara II shipwreck. You can see that video here.
I am thankful that I am able to do what I love for a living, and sharing that on here and through social media is a blessing in my life that I try to never take for granted. See below for some of my favourite images from this past winter.
